Prof. Richey to Japan in Spring 2024
Professor Jeff Richey, who is on sabbatical leave during the 2023-24 academic year, has been awarded a Visiting Faculty Fellowship by the Associated Kyoto Program based at Dōshisha University in Kyōto, Japan. In spring 2024, he will teach a course at Dōshisha on “Nara Period Japan” and conduct research on the 8th century empress who ruled Japan twice, under the names Kōken 孝謙 and Shōtoku 称徳, and was the last woman to wield real imperial power in Japanese history.
